This article will detail the process for setting up POS Scales.  


I. Setting up the Physical Scale

    A. Plug Scale into Power and USB

    B. Power on the indicator by pressing and holding the [ON/OFF] key. The display will go through a display test then go into regular weigh mode.

    C. Press the [HOLD] + [ON/OFF] key for 3 seconds. The indicator shows config to indicate that you are in Setup Menu mode.

    D. Press the [UNIT] key until the indicator display shows the user.

    E. Press the [TARE] key and the indicator display shows reset.

    F. Press the [UNIT] key until you see the com port you are using for your software; COM1 (USB port) or COM2 (serial port)

    G. Press the [TARE] key to select the desired com port.

    H. The indicator's display shows bud.rt. Press the [TARE] key go into the baud rate setting and confirm it is the appropriate baud rate for your software generally 9600. To toggle to another baud rate setting, press the [UNIT] key until the one is displayed. (i.e. 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200, 38400)

    I. Press the [TARE] key and the display shows bud.rt.

    J. Press the [UNIT] key and the display shows bt.fmt.

    K. Press the [TARE] key to go into the setting and confirm it is the appropriate bit format for your software (7o1 for Cloud Retailer). To select another bit format setting,                 press the [UNIT] key until the desired selection is displayed. (i.e.  7E1, 7O1)

    L. Press the [TARE] key and the display shows bt.fmt.

    M. Press the [UNIT] key until the display shows lyout.

    N. Press the [TARE] key to go into your selection

    O. Press the [UNIT] key until the display shows the correct protocol needed for your software. scp02

    P. Press the [TARE] key and lyout will be displayed.

    Q. Press the [ZERO] key to display the com port that you were changing.

    R. Press the [UNIT] key until the display shows other.

    S. Press the [TARE] key until the display shows nld.rg.

    T. Press the [UNIT] key until legacy is displayed.

    U. Press the [TARE] key and a number will be displayed.

    V. Press the [UNIT] key until a 2 is displayed.

    W. Press the [TARE] key and legacy will be displayed.

    X. Press and release the [ZERO/ON/OFF] key until you are all the way out of the Setup Menu mode and into the Normal Weigh mode.

II. Setting up the Scale Software

    A. Open Device Manager on your computer

        1. For Windows 10 right-click the start menu and select Device Manager

        2. For other windows systems click the start menu

        3. Open Control Panel

        4. Select Device Manager

    B. Click on Ports (COM & LPT) to expand the list

    C. Look for your scale should show something like USB-SERIAL CH340(COMx) where x is the number assigned by your computer. You will need this number in the coming steps.

    D. Close Device Manager 
    E. Download OPOS Basic Kit https://www.brecknellscales.com/downloads/OPOS%20Basic%20Kit.zip
F. Unzip the OPOS Basic Kit.zip file
G. View the Extracted file
H. Unzip WTScaleAdmin.zip
I. View the Extracted files
J. Run WTScaleAdmin.exe
K. Follow the prompts to install
L. Click the Start Menu
M. Find WTScaleAdmin under all programs
N. Click and run the application as Admin

O. On the Scale Profile tab Click Add
P. Enter a name for your scale (This will be used to connect to your scale through cloud retailer.)
Q. Click OK
R. At the bottom in the Serial Communications: box select the COM port you found in Device Manager
S. Baud Rate set during Physical Scale Setup (9600)
T. Databits: 7
U. Parity e = Even o = Odd (This is from the 7e1 or 7o1 from the Physical Setup)

V. Select Scale Test Tab
W. Enter the same information again in the drop-downs
X. In the test box click the Scale Function drop-down.
Y. Select Request Weight: W<CR>
Z. Place weight on the scale
AA. Click Send
BB. The weight on the screen should match the physical readout
III. Cloud Retailer POS Setup
A. Open Cloud Retailer Back Office Website
B. Click Admin
C. Device and Register List
D. Click the Register the Scale is connected to select it
E. Click Edit Selected Register(s) on the right
F. Scroll down to where the attached Devices are configured
G. Enter the scale name from Step 40
H. Select Device Type Scale from the drop-down
I. Click Save
J. Close/Minimize your browser
K. Click the start Menu
L. Start typing UAC
M. Click Change User Account Control Settings from the Results
N. Drag the slider down until it says Never Notify
O. You may need to enter an Administrator password for this setting to apply
P. Close the window
Q. On your desktop right-click on the Cloud Retailer POS Icon
R. Select Properties

S. Click on the Tab labeled Compatibility
T. Click Change Settings for all users

V. Click OK
W. Click OK again
X. Now Double Click Cloud Retailer POS to open your POS
If after all these Steps your Scale still will not connect with Cloud Retailer you will need to check the registry to ensure that an entry was made under the directory "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\OLEforRetail".    Some of the time it will create one under the user profile and not the Local Machine.  To correct this you will need to search for the OLEforRetail and locate the scale you set up.  Export the scale entry and update the path with the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\OLEforRetail" reference so you can use it to create the proper entries.

You will also want to make sure that all of the settings are the same between the Device Manager, WTScaleAdmin, and the Scale itself.  So whatever setting you set on the scale should match all the way through see the screenshot below for port settings through Device Manager
