Discount Safety Improvements

Modified on Mon, 20 Jan at 11:50 AM

NOTE: After you create or modify a discount, you MUST restart Cloud Retailer for the new discount to take effect.

Overview

Cloud Retailer v4.10 introduces the following changes to all discount types (coupons, custom discounts, and product discounts) to improve the safety of discounts, especially in multi-location environments.

  1. A new location selector tree was implemented in the discount setup pages to replace the "Location" and "Location ID" filters.
  2. Discounts are now required to have at least 1 location and 1 filter defined.
  3. Users will only see discounts available for their location.

What happens to discounts created before v4.10?

This change only affects how the discount data is displayed in the back office. The discounts will still work as normal at the POS.

The update to v4.10 and beyond will automatically identify and define the location(s) for existing discounts.  If the discount has an incorrect location defined, and the filter does not yield any results, the discount will still be updated, and the discount's name will have a red background in the discount report.

Locations and User Roles

Users will only see discounts for their configured location(s) role(s).  For example, if a user is a Head Cashier at only Location B, they may see discounts for Location B, but they will not see any discounts that are only configured for Location A.

Furthermore, if a user attempts to change a discount configured for multiple locations, including their own, they will be met with the following message.  This prevents a user from modifying a discount that may affect a location outside their configured location(s) role(s).

  • This discount has been configured for locations you currently do not have access to and can not be saved. Please contact your administrator to add access to your assigned role.
