Modified on Tue, 18 Jun at 12:46 PM

Overview

In this article, we'll guide you through the steps of designing ZPL-type labels for your GoDEX printer using our preferred tool - Zebra's Designer 3 software. This software is free to download here.

Note : We understand that designing labels can be a technically advanced task. The Cloud Retailer Team is happy to assist via premium services contract.

Procedure

1. Installing Zebra Designer

1.1 Download the Zebra Designer 3 application using the provided link

1.2 Once the download is complete, follow the instructions to set up the application on your device.

2. Label Templates

2.1 Instead of starting from scratch, we recommend using our standard set of label templates below :

                     Default Label Designs

Example Label Template used in the video below

2.2 To open a template, in your Zebra Designer 3 application, click Home > Open

Here's a short video taking you through how to use the Zebra Designer application and upload your designs to Cloud Retailer

3. Adjusting Field and Barcode Placement

3.1 Before moving around the formatting follow this article USB/NET Printer configuration

3.2 If you need to move a text field, you can easily adjust its position by editing the numbers following the associated ^FO with the text you want to move

To move the field left or right, simply add or subtract from the first number

To move the field up or down on the label, add or subtract from the second number

3.3 If you need to move the barcode, apply the same logic in the previous step but modify the numbers following the ^FT in the code

4. Adding the label to back office

TIP : It is recommended to view label templates that already exist in your instance to get some idea of what a well written label template looks like.

4.1 Save your label template in Zebra Designer with variables.

4.2 Go to your back office. Go to the Admin tab -> find "Label templates". Click "Create New Label Template" and give the label a name.

4.3 Copy and past the text from the file you exported to the "Template" field.

4.3.1 Now you must replace the variables in the template with Cloud Retailer variables. Here are a few common ones:

                - @Model.Data.Description (product's description)

                - @Model.Data.Price.ToString("C") (product's price)

                - @Model.Data.PrimaryProductCode (product's UPC code)

                - @(Model.Product.ProductSize?.Description) (product's size)

These are just a few examples. More can be found here, or you can contact support@cloudretailer.com for more information on this.
